why kairos outside?

Kairos Outside is designed to support the families of men and women who are or have been incarcerated in the County, State and Federal Correctional Facilities, as well as County Jails and Youth Offender Programs.

The spouses, parents, and other relatives of the incarcerated often "do the time" right along with their loved ones.

It is important for them to know that there is a Christian Community who cares.

This support is provided in a safe environment with Christian people during this Kairos Outside Weekend.

During the Weekend, the guests will have a chance to interact with other women who are in similar situations and learn how to form small groups to support and give strength in their life's journey.

The weekend?

This Weekend differs from other renewal Weekends in Christian denominations.

The Kairos Outside Weekend is designed for Christian and non-Christian guests.

Most of these guests are dealing with rejection, financial hardship, and loneliness.

The talks are relevant to the thoughts, concerns and feelings of an  incarcerated person's loved one.

WHO ATTENDS THE WEEKEND?

Any adult female 20 years old, or older, whose life has been impacted by the incarceration of relatives/friends, is eligible to attend a Kairos Outside Weekend.

Women who did not have an opportunity to attend a Kairos Weekend while incarcerated may also attend.

This program IS NOT limited to those women whose relatives/friends have attend a Kairos Weekend.

The Weekend is NOT COED.

What Happens at a Kairos Outside Weekend?

The Weekend is a series of talks given by women sharing their life's journey.

Each guest has the opportunity to review the talk in small family groups.

However, sharing in the small family group is voluntary.

The program is interspersed with music, prayer, fun activities.

The Weekend is Christian in nature,

although no religious affiliation is necessary to attend.

What is expected of a guest?

We ask only that the guest stay for the entire program

and listen with an open mind, there are no other expectations.

Who Presents at a kairos outside weekend?

The team comes from many different Christian Denominations

and is committed to ministering to inmates and their families.

Several of the team members are wives, sisters,

grandmothers and mothers of inmates.

The team is made up of 25-30 women, clergy women & several men.

(Men cook for the Weekend and are not involve in the talks, meditations or discussions).

HOW LONG IS A KAIROS OUTSIDE WEEKEND?

The program starts on Friday, at about 6:00 p.m. and continues through Sunday, until about 4 p.m.

How much does it cost to attend the weekend?

There is no cost to the guest. The funds are provided by local Christian Communities.

Where do I stay during the weekend?

The Weekend is held at a local Retreat Center.

The facility provides everything except personal articles. Dress is casual and comfortable.

A pad or pillow to sit on is a good idea, and if bedding is needed, guests will be notified.

do i have to be a christian to attend?

NO!

All we ask is that you be open to discussion on talks

that may be given from a Christian perspective

and that you enjoy your Weekend.

How do i get to the weekend?

Directions to the Retreat Center will be mailed to you.

We will make every effort to help find transportation

if guests are unable to come on their own.

What should i tell my husband about the men who will serve on the weekend?

The men are present to prepare and serve the meals.

They do not participate in the talk room activities and only serve in the dining room.

what happens after the weekend?

Follow up Reunion Picnics are held 2-3 weeks after the Weekend.
